WHAT IS SR (Search & Replace)?
SR is a small utility designed to automate the process of
searching & replacing data in files. Instead of using a file
editor and searching through manually, SR allows you to enter
what you what to find, and what you want to replace it with.
HOW TO USE SR.EXE
You have two main options on the main menu, these are
1) Search & Replace.
2) Overwrite.
Search & Replace
This option allows you to search for a series of bytes and
replace them with your own values. After selecting this option,
you must enter the path and name of the file you wish to alter.
If the file exists, you will then be presented with a box, in
which you enter the hex values of the data that is to be
replaced. Each hex value is seperated by a '/'.
An example of this is:-
AA/C4/E3/D4/AC
You can enter upto 240 values which will be searched for.
Press enter when you have entered all the values. You are must
now enter the values that will be used to replace the old data.
This is entered in the same way. The replace data *MUST* have
the same amount of data as the search data. Press enter when you
are finished. You are now prompted to press a key to start. After
the key press the program will start to search the file, if the
data is found, it will be replaced.
When the process has finished, the original file will be renamed
with a .OLD extension, the altered file will have the original
filename.
Overwrite
This option is used to overwrite data, starting at a given offset.
Enter the path and filename of the program. You are now required
to enter the start OFFSET of the data you wish to overwrite, this
OFFSET is a 4 digit hex value between 0000 and FFFF.
After entered the OFFSET, you must now enter the data that will
be written to the file, this is entered using the method
described earlier in the documentation, press enter when finished,
Press any key to start searching the file.
If Search & Replace or Overwrite don't find the data/offset, the
original file will not be renamed or altered.
